Help us raise £50,000 to provide 'by your side' sleeper chairs

Please help us raise £50,000 to provide ’by your side’ sleeper chairs so that vulnerable patients and those at the end of their lives can have a loved one stay by their side.

The sleeper chairs, which easily convert from an armchair into a comfortable bed, will help patients and their families across all the wards at Salisbury District Hospital. Currently, relatives can only be offered upright or partially reclining chairs which are uncomfortable and very difficult to sleep on.

Having these chairs will mean patients and their families and carers can be together in comfort during very difficult times and enable much-needed sleep and rest. We are looking to fund 36 chairs at a cost £1,400 each.

Zoe Broughton, of the End of Life Care Team at Salisbury District Hospital, says: “These sleeper chairs will be much more than just a place to sit and rest, they will offer families the opportunity to be with their loved ones no matter the time or circumstances. This is especially important for patients who are at the end of their lives, as they and their families find such comfort in being by each other’s side in the last days or weeks of life.”

Every year, the Hospital provides end of life care to over 700 people. The Stars Appeal works with the End of Life Care nurse specialists and the Hospital Palliative Care Team to support these patients and their loved ones during this difficult time in a number of ways including the funding of a dedicated bereavement suite and information and support for relatives and patients.
