A record breaking 2012 Walk for Wards – £63,000 pledged

BBC South Today weather presenter Reham Khan sent more than 1,100 walkers on their way at the Stars Appeal Walk for Wards on Sunday 24th June knowing that between them they had already pledged sponsorship of more than £63,000. And, true to her word, the rain kept off and walkers enjoyed a dry walk, followed by a free lunch, in the beautiful grounds of the Wilton Estate.

Walkers chose to raise funds to support a ward or department that has special significance for them, or for the Stars Appeal to use wherever additional money can benefit patients. On the day walkers wore signs on their backs to explain their reasons for walking, from “for our brave mum”, to for “Saving my life”. Pictures of the walkers are available to view on the Stars Appeal Facebook page www.facebook.com/starsappeal.salisburyhospital and on photographer John Rose’s site www.johnrosephotography.com

Gemma Heath, Stars Appeal organiser for Walk for Wards, said, “We are so grateful to everyone that supported the walk and has helped to make it a record breaking event for us. Their support will help fund life changing projects at Salisbury District Hospital.”

The Stars Appeal wishes to thank the hundreds of people who help make the walk happen: our hosts Lord and Lady Pembroke, Nigel Bailey and the Wilton Estate team, Reeve the Baker, Booker, 3663 and Ido Davids for lunch, sponsors Wilts and Dorset, Spire FM, the Salisbury Journal and Unstuck Design. And not forgetting the army of Stars Appeal volunteers and Rotary Club of Wilton members who managed walkers and marshalled the walk.

The Stars Appeal asks walkers to collect their sponsorship and send it to the Stars Appeal, Salisbury District Hospital, SP2 8BJ.
