A charity road run featuring an array of classic and modern cars is expected to raise £15,000.
Boys’ Treasured Toys took place on Tuesday 23rd June, and was attended by around 250 people in 100 cars. This is the ninth year the annual fundraising event has been held in support of us and brings the total raised to date to over £70,000.
Drivers turned out in a range of vehicles, including Humbers, Alfa Romeos, Bentleys, Morgans, Jeeps and vintage Land Rovers.
Stars Appeal President, the Earl of Pembroke, welcomed the event’s participants to Wilton House before setting off on a 100-mile route. Drivers of older cars had the opportunity to take a more sedate route.
Patient Ambassador Louise Bennett, whose baby received care on the Neonatal Unit, spoke about how Stars Appeal-funded projects, including the parents’ accommodation, supported her and her son and inspired her own personal fundraising efforts.
During the road run, participants enjoyed a picnic with the panoramic views at Martha’s Down before heading to Breamore House for afternoon tea and a visit to the Countryside Museum.
Drivers and passengers made donations to take part in the event, which was organised by Louise Hall, Matthew Pickford and Nick Combes.
Lead organiser and Stars Appeal Fundraising Committee member Louise Hall said: “We were delighted to see such a strong turnout this year, with even more participants joining us. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event, including our wonderful hosts, for making the day so special. We are delighted to continue helping patients and their families at Salisbury Hospital when they need it most.”
Cancer Consultant and Stars Appeal Ambassador Dr Tracey Parker, who also spoke at the event, added: “Every single day, my colleagues and I see the difference that Stars Appeal-funded projects make to the care we are able to provide to patients and their families. We are incredibly grateful to the organisers and to everyone who has supported this event so generously; their kindness will help us achieve extraordinary things at our hospital.”
Money raised by the event helps fund Stars Appeal projects across Salisbury Hospital including state-of-the-art equipment, enhancements to buildings, and the charity’s ongoing work, such as Stars Appeal Wi-Fi and support for people with cancer.
