Inca Trail Trekkers raise over £100,000

We are celebrating the success of the Inca Trail Trekkers, a group of thirty five local people who after spending 18 months fundraising and training took on a five day trek to Machu Picchu, where they climbed to heights of up to 4200m by day and camped with only basic facilities each night.

Between them they have raised an amazing £101,303.57 for our Hospital Charity – the Stars Appeal.

The Grand Total was announced on at a special celebration at Danny’s Craft Bar, Salisbury where Trek organisers Jo Maslen (Stars Appeal Volunteer) Jayne Prigent (JAS Hair) and Martin Starke (Spire FM) presented the enormous cheque to Cara Charles-Barks (Chief Executive of Salisbury District Hospital ) and Nick Marsden (Chairman of Salisbury District Hospital) who are both Trustees of the Stars Appeal.

The money raised by the Trek will help patients all around the hospital by funding additional care, support and equipment over and above that provided by the NHS and is a big step towards the £1million we need to raise each year to fund Stars Appeal projects like those listed below:

• Recreational activities for Spinal Unit patients

• Support groups for cancer patients

• Aromatherapy on the Pembroke Unit, Labour ward, Farley Stroke Unit and other areas

• The latest medical equipment

• Engage and Elevate programmes

• Stars Appeal Changing Faces Practitioner

• Hospital Chaplaincy

• The Benson Suite

• Free accommodation for the parents of sick children

• Child focussed surroundings for children on the Children’s Ward

• Enhanced rehabilitation for Stroke Patients

• Free Wi-Fi

And many, many more…

On behalf of all of those people that their support will directly help we record our most sincere thanks to all the Trekkers and to everyone who has helped them achieve this incredible total. Thank you all so much.
